An 11 Year Old & Crazy Marshmallows

So, we went with the sleepover party, not my personal favorite way to go but those days are here and I have a feeling they may last years. Perry had six friends for the night and they were up late and raucous for the most part.
For an appetizer some cut up red pepper cucumber and hummus was out for the taking. For dinner, the birthday girl chose Thai food from EAT on Third Avenue which we had conveniently delivered for the girls. They chowed down on jade thai (peanut with Thai radish) and vegetable dumplings as well as a slew of vegetable pad thai, no egg. It was all pretty delicious but they did save room for dessert. Perry requested So Decadent (Turtle Mountain) coconut based ice cream which is creamy and really is so decadent. We doctored it up with some gum drops from Whole Foods (no food dye), some rice based whipped cream, fresh strawberries and chocolate chips. Then, our Piece de Resistance was a crazy second dessert. We took all natural marshmallows on top of a bunch of not too sweet organic chocolate chips and baked it. The marshmallows puffed up sky high, then dropped a little like a souffle would if a door slammed. Then, we let it sit and the girls ate it later. It was chewy and crusty both and tasted like a "forgotten cookie" (a family favorite from when I was young) and made me want to try to bake forgotten cookies some time if I can figure out how. Although somehow I am sure they have ingredients of which I have since become skeptical.
So, around 11 pm I heard lots of noise and went upstairs to find a few chatty girls, all of the Thai food back out, all of the flavors off ice cream being served up again and the crazy marshmallow dish as an accoutrement...this staying awake and going upstairs and down went on until 4 am. I already suggested to both of my older girls that next year's party be a couple kids and we will go to dim sum at Golden Unicorn. We will see if they take the bait or keep me in a slumber party stupor for many years to come.
